The forum organised by PF-Initiative (PFI) aimed to amplify women and girls voices in The Gambia, focusing on advocating for
National Assembly Members (NAMs) to uphold the rights of women and girls, including the
enforcement of the Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (FGM/C) ban. Recent developments in the
National Assembly regarding a proposed repeal of the Women's Act of 2015 have necessitated this
crucial conversation. The event gathered activists, legal experts, Bajens, health experts, and
policymakers to discuss the preservation of women's rights, with discussions conducted in local
languages to ensure inclusivity and better understanding of the topic.
The forum successfully brought together various stakeholders to discuss the preservation of women's rights in The Gambia. The discussions highlighted the critical need to maintain the FGM/C ban and to ensure women and girls voices are heard in advocacy efforts. The collective efforts of all participants will play a significant role in upholding the rights of women and girls in The Gambia.
The forum also highlighted the critical need for continued advocacy and action to protect and promote
the rights of women and girls in The Gambia. By implementing these strong recommendations, future
programming can effectively address the challenges and drive meaningful change in the fight against
FGM/C and gender-based violence. Collaboration, community engagement, and a commitment to
upholding human rights are essential to achieving these goals.
PF Initiative express their heartfelt gratitude to all the speakers, participants, and partners for their
invaluable contributions and unwavering commitment to advocating for women and girls rights.
Special thanks to UNICEF and TANGO for their support and partnership in making this forum a
success.
