As part of the Beijing+30 review, member States have been invited to undertake comprehensive national-level reviews that take stock of achievements, identify gaps and setbacks, and outline strategies for addressing those gaps and challenges at the national level. The regional review aims to assess current and emerging challenges that affect the implementation of the BPfA and the achievement of gender equality and the empowerment of women. We in PF-Initiative were honoured to be the organisers of this event. The event gathered activists, legal experts and young youth leaders to discuss and assess progress to the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action in The Gambia over the past five years.
PF-I was honoured to be given the opportunity to facilitate this very important event here in The Gambia and we thought it was a good opportunity too educate CSO’s inThe Gambia on Beinjing +30 and enabling all of us to be part of the regional conversation. As recently the issue of FGM has brought up lots of Gender issues in the Gambia and not only FGM, this helps show the role of women and how the
advocacy and the work that has been done over these years and shows us were we are and things we are doing right or wrong and we have noticed lots of gap in many sectors, however measuring this is hard as there aren’t adequate data so the real question is “where are we now?”.
